Went to work on a farm when he left school in 1913 aged 11 but later went to work in the mines. He remained a coal miner until he retired in about 1968. The mines paid better than farm work and his family needed him to contribute to their upkeep. 1939 William, lived at 19 Moorland View, Fegg Hayes (later renamed Oxford Road). He was describes as coal hewer (below) heavy worker, with Millie described as a market stall assistant. 1939 entry doesn’t show living people. William died on Christmas Day 1975 after a short illnes. He was cremated at Carmount side in January 1976. Grandfather James Davis Bradbury d 1878 was son of James Davis (see marriage certificate). Evidence indicates Elizabeth (nee Bradbury) was his wife. The ages, occupations and birth places on the followng census entry match them. From his birth certificate, William was born at 24 Grovesnor Street, Hanley in 1904. |
