1851, Aged 24, Living in lodgings in Burslem with husband Edmund, 25 a Potter and children Mary Ann, 5 (born Cheddleton) and Herbert 1 (born Burslem). They are lodging with William and Mary Lowe,

1861 35 Living in Peel Street Burslem with her husband 36, a potter and children Mary A 15, Herbert C 11 who is described as a potter, Harriet 8 a scholar and Sarah 1. Sarah now gives her place of birth as Stone.

1871, Living at 17 Sutherland Road, Longton. Aged 45 A widowed embroidress born Ipstones. With her are her children Herbert, Harriet (now Mrs Riley with a daughter Ellen, 1), Thomas (nearly blind) Thomas and Patience

1881 Now 54 and living in Leek, Sarah is still and embroidress. Living with her are her children: Thomas now 18 and described as deaf with no occupation (Is he both almost blind and deaf?) and Patience Elizabeth, 16 an embroidress

1891 Sarah, now 64 and still an embroidress has moved to Rishton(?), Lancashire with her son Thomas 28 described as deaf for 20 years, but who is now employed as a labourer (post office?).

1901 Sarah Gater, 74 born Wetley Rocks (mother in law) is living in Leek with Charles (39, a Fancy Draper shopkeeper from Leek) and his wife Sarah Ward (40, born Burslem) and their children, all born in Leek: Ada 18 a milliner's apprentice, Clorinda 16, Francis Edmund 10, Leo Alfred 8, Margaret Mary 4 and Gertrude Mary 2. They were living at 10 Fountain Street, Leek - The Cawdry buildings

Sarah died in Q1 1907 at Leek (6b 235) aged 80.
