In 1881 a Peter Smith, aged 24, a labourer from Tunstall, is married to Sarah A, 23 an assistant school teacher from St Georges, Salop and has a daughter Ellen Jane, aged 1, born in Talke. They are living in Talke village. In 1891 a Peter Smith aged 34, born Tunstall, Staffordshire is lodging in Ponkey, Ruabon with Edward and Elizabeth Williams (bilingual in English and Welsh). Peter and Edward are coal miners. [Is this any connection with Peter, son of Jane Jones? Are the Williams’s related?]. Peter is recorded as married, but his wife if not present. In 1901, Peter, 44, born Tunstall is a labourer, coke drawer. He is living at Audley, Rectory View with his wife Sarah A, 43, from St Georges, Salop, a school teacher (headmistress at Elday (?) school) and their children Florence A 17 (born St George, Salop), a pupil teacher at her mother’s school, Lily A 15 born London (Cubitt? Town) and Arthur 1, born in Talk. 1911 Peter has died. Sarah A, 53 is living at 161 Crown Bank, Talke. She is still a head teacher and employed by the county council. She had six children, five still living and one died. WIth her are her daughter Florence A, 27, single, a certified assistant teacher and sons Arthur, 11 and Peter 7, the two sons born in Talke.
