Shared note

In 1851 a Charles Smith, 68 and widowed, born Arnold, Nottingham, is living at High Street, Arnold with 38 year old, unmarried, Harriet Lee. She is his housekeeper and identified as a “relation”. In 1891 our Charles’s grandson William Smith has a foster child, 11 year old Frank Lea (born Liverpool). There are also several IGI member’s records for christening of a Charles Smith in March 1783 (various dates 12th, 23rd and 28th) the son of William Smith and Jane Lee.

It is therefore possible that the Harriet Lee was Charles’s niece (or at least the niece of his wife Jane). The question is whether this Charles Smith is the same as the father of John Smith and grandfather of WIlliam.
