1841 census - Margaret Dawson (possibly Margaret Hood) living at Wetley Rocks, aged 70, with or next door to a family of Sheldon's. Could this be the family of Sheldon's that her granddaughter Mary Knott (b 1838) married into (poss George)
William Sheldon 42 Ag Lab.
Sarah 40
William 18, Ag lab.
Ann 10
George, 7
Caroline 5
Hannah, 2

IGI record of christening: Margaret Hood 15th July 1770, Cheddleton Staffordshire, mother Sarah Hood, no father named. This would make Margaret 70 by the time of the 1841 census and so is a possibility. There is also a christening record for a Peggy Hood, 1 Nov 1767 at St Edwards, Cheddleton. Parents Thomas and Ann Hood, but the date/age combination from the census and subsequent death certificate suggests the former is more likely

Margaret would have been 39 when Sarah was born. which might suggest that she was a widow when she married Thomas Dawson and that her maiden name was not Hood, however the baptism record of her son George indicates otherwise. The parish record for the marriage does not give previous marital status. The witnesses were Geo. Parkin and Jos.h Wood or Hood (I think Wood and he is a common witness for many marriages).

In 1841: Neighbours to Job Johnson 50 (and Ellen 55), witness at Sarah Dawson's marriage to James Knott were George and Nancy Hood. Living at Chapel House, Ipstones. George was 50-54 years old in 1841 (HO107/1004/7). A George Hood was christened on 1 Aug 1790 in Cheddleton, mother Margaret This would be approximately the right date. IGI C104082. Is it possible that Margaret already had a son when she married Thomas Dawson (whether or not married). A copy of the parish record shows that George was recorded as illigit, suggesting that Margaret was not married.

Job Johnson, born about 1790 (chr 26 Feb 1790, Ipstones) married Ellen Corden on 7 Aug 1815 at Ipstones.

George Hood married Nancy Corden on 28th June 1813 at Ipstones in Staffordshire, both were aged 21 (does this mean actually 21 or over 21?) and the witnesses were Thomas Dawson and Ellen Cordon (IGI M096841) which seems to conclusively link this Hood family with Thomas.

In the 1841 census, Nancy's age is given as 65 (could be right: two christening records for Ann Corden, 1785 and 1786, Ipstones - different parents. Would make her 5 years older than George).

in 1841 the Corden sisters (or cousins?) Ellen and Nancy were living next door to each other with their respective husbands Job Johnson and George Hood.

Margaret Dawson died in November 1848 at the age of 78 (DMB ref: Q4 1848 Cheadle vol 17 p31). Her death was registered by her son in law James Turner.
