1861 Aged ? Living with widowed mother, and brother William and sister Emily in High Street Topsham, Devon. His younger brother George had already died. Tracked down through sister. He was recorded on the census returns as Abert James rather than James Albert.

1871 Still living in Topsham Devon with his mother and siblings. He is now apprenticed to a carpenter.

James Albert Baker (occupation joiner) married Jane Henly (dress maker) in August 1878, both their fathers were already dead (certificate obtained)

Reference to death of Jane Baker in the same Northampton district in Q2 1882.

James Albert Baker (widower) married Jemima Hunt in Stoke on Trent in April 1883. Certificate obtained. Both living at Selwyn Street.
Son James Albert Horswell born at Moore Street in 1884. On the record of marriage his occupation is given as carpenter.

1891 James, a 36 year old employed carpenter from Topsham, Devon was living at Moore Street, Kingsthorpe, Northants with his wife Jemima, 37 from Birmingham and his children William H 10 a son of his first wife , Jennie/Jemima 9 (or is this Jane from 1st marriage?), James A, 7, Annie 5 and George W 2. 1901 Family living at 58 Moore Street (problably same house as 10 years earlier). One extra child, Herbert Harold, aged 9. James is now an electric wire man and Jemima has given place of birth as Walsall. William is working as a clicker? in the shoe trade, Jemima as a machinist making pinafores and Annie as a machinist making ladies' clothes. RG13/ 1428/155; Page: 31.

1911, James Albert, now married to Jemima for 28 years they have had 4 children all of whom are still living. Aged 57 his address appears to be 38 Moore Street, Kinglsey, Northampton (may be same as 10 years earlier). He is an electrical engineer employing others.
