Hannah was born at Godley Brook, Dilhorne in 1837 but she was not there at the time of the 1841 census. It was occupied by Joseph Harvey, most probably her father Samuel’s brother who would have been about 43 years old.

1841 -1851 Living with parents

1861 Hannah, 23 from Dilhorne was a house servant in the family home of Mary Steele, 58 a widowed farmer of 38 acres in Milton.

Hannah married widower John Snelgrove in 1869.

1871 aged 33 iving in Abbey, Hulton, Burslem with husband John Snelgrove 34, a coal miner from Somerset, and his two children John Snelgrove 9 and Albert Snelgrove 7. Also with them are Joseph Harvey 34, a coal miner and Martha Harvey 23. Martha’s birth place is recroded as Burslem and that of the two Harvey’s (almost certainly her brother and sister) as Stoke [although most likely to have been Dilhorne].

1881 - aged 42 (from birth certificate age 43) living with husband, his two sons, niece Alice Ada Harvey and a lodger(?) Joseph Harvey, 44, gardener domestic servant from Dilhorne.
This is almost certainly Samuel Harvey's sister as we know that Alice Ada (grand aunt of Elizabeth Deakin) went to live with Aunt Snelgrove on the death of her mother. Joseph is almost certainly her brother.

1911 Hannah Snelgrove aged 73 from Bucknall, Staffordshire is living in in Meadow Lane, Whiteley Wood, Ecclesall, Sheffield with her step son Edward Snelgrove, 52 born Cheddleton, Staffordshire who is the head teacher employed by the City Council Education Committe. He is married to Marrian Lizzie, 48 from Burslem, Staffordshire. They have been married for 24 year and had three children: Winifred 20 a university student, Edward Copeland 18 an engineering student and Marian 13 still at school. All three children were born in Derbyshire. They also have a 16 year old servant, Lilly Maycock born locally in Sheffield.

Death record for Hannah Snelgrove in Ecclesall Bierlow, West Riding, Yorkshire in Q4 1911, aged 75. Despite the slight discrepency in age this is probably Hannah Harvey. Ecclesall Bierlow 1911 Q4 9C 480.
