According to the family account they Lived in a big house in Penkhull. This family did not have anything to do with Job's family until they were all old and one of the daughters was killed in a road accident. At this time they contacted May Downs (Cooper). The account is that the family disapproved of Job’s marriage to an Irish catholic. However, this family doesn’t fit this story. It fits more closely with Mary Cooper and William Cheshire who lived in Penkhull.

1891 Aged 14 still living with parents

1901

1911 A Martha M Cooper is registered as a patient at Cheddleton mental hospital, known then as the County Lunatic Asylum. Age 34, single, general servant. Recorded as Imbilcile, born in Stoke. No indication of any relatives or how long she had been there. Nothing specific to link this Martha with the one we are looking for and there is a discrepancy in place of birth Stoke v Newcastle u Lyme although this could be a mistake. However it is more likely that this is Martha Mary Cooper whoes birth was registered in Stoke on Trent in Q1 1877 6b/198, mother's name Cope.
1939 Martha M Cooper is still a patient at the hospital. Death of Martha M Cooper, aged 79, born 1877 registered in Cheddleton in June 1956.

Eliminated leads - although may be from other branches of the family so retaining for further research
A Martha Cooper married James Ernest Twemlow in 1899. In 1901 James Ernest and Martha Twemlow (born Talk oth Hill, Audley, were living in Rode Heath, Cheshire. She was 26 he 33. He worked as a railway clerk. By 1911 they had been married 11 years and had one son, Charles Phillip, aged 9 and lived at the Moss, Scholar Green.

Death of Martha M Twemlow was recorded in Newcastle under Lyme in Q4 1946 9b 260, aged 63 - this is several years younger than expected and so may indicate the wrong person. Alternative is from Crewe 1947 Q4 10a 234 aged about 78, but this is somewhat too old for a birth date of 1877.
NOT the Martha we are searching for - the parish record of this marriage names the brides father as Henry Cooper.

Another possibility was marraige of Martha Cooper in 1902 Q1 Wolstanton to Edwin Rowley 6b 115, however the parish record shows the bride’s father was Jospeh Cooper, not Daniel.
Or Martha Cooper married either William Halliday or Frederick George Rix in Q4 1902 in Stoke on Trent.
