William Harvey married Mary Steel on 28th April 1794. He had been married before. Not sure whether this is the William and Mary who are the parents of Samuel. There is another record of a marriage between a William Harvey and a Mary Rushton in Cheadle parish in 1790: Marriage(s): A Mary Harvey was burried in Dilhorne on June 19th 1793. Could this have been William’s first wife? Letter of administration for estate of Mary Harvey, widow, late of Dilhorne was granted to Joseph Harvey, labourer from the parish if uttoxeter, her natural child, on 23rd Dec 1834. Could this be William's widow? A William Harvey of Dilhorne made a will on 2 March 1817 and probate was granted on 1 May 1817. Willliam died in March. He left his possessions to his wife Mary for her natural life and then equally between his children. He names his executors as his sons Joseph and William Harvey. The parish register shows that 80 year old William Harvey of Godley Brook was buried on 9th March 1817. This means he was about 80 years old. Could he really have been person who married Mary Steel in 1794 and the father of all the children born when he was beween 57 and 75 years old? It is possible but this William is most likely the son of Thomas Harvey and Dorothea Gallimore - see below - possible grandparents to the William, father of this family. A William Harvey, son of Thomas and Dorothy was baptised in Dilhorne on 19 March 1738 at All Saints Dilhorne. This is likely to be the William of Godley Brook who died in 1817 and left the will naming his sons Joseph and William as his executors and naming his wife as Mary. However, it maybe that Mary was his second wife. In 1841, Joseph Harvey (born 1794) , whom I think is the brother of Samuel Harvey (born 1805) was living at Godley Brook. One possible genealogy for William Harvey, all Dilhorne, Staffs (provided by fellow researcher).: Father of William Father of Richard Father of Thomas Parents of Dorothea Gallimore: Parents of Jacob Gallimore: Parents of William Gallimore: But - the William Harvey with parents Richard and SarahPegg was not christened until 1779 - which if he was christened as a baby makes him too young to have married for a 2nd time in1794 so which is incorrect? I am reasonably confident that the list ofSamuel's siblings is correct as I have found relevant connections between them and their children, so whether or not William and Mary Steel are the correct parents, the date of their marriage fits and appears to rule out the William I think is the son of Richard and Sarah Pegg. Also I have not managed to find the connection with Craycott, althought it may be irrelevant as the distances are short.*Other children of Thomas and Dorothy christened in All Saints Dillhorn are: There is a very old grave behind Dilhorne church. The stone is half burried but some of the names are still visible. They are James, Francis and Catherine Harvey. There were other names on the same stone which appeared to be in the style of others with 18th century dates. Could it be that these are siblings who died young or unmarried. The stone is next to another stone inscribed for Thomas Harvey who died in March 178? These stones are almost certainly for this family. Another possible genealogy for William: Christened 8/8/1766, Cheadle, Stafford or or |
