1822 Married Elizabeth Taylor on 22 May 1822 at the parish church of Wolverhampton. The witnesses were Joseph Robinson (?) and Samuel Hancher, the latter appearing as a witness at many marriages so possibly a parish clerk.

1826 At baptism of Elizabeth, daughter of William and Elizabeth Banks, living near Kingswinford, Staffordshire, on 1 Jan 1826 at St Nicholas's Church, Codsall, Staffordshire, William is described as a gardener.

1841 Census. 45 year old agricultural labourer living at 43 King's Wood in parish of Tetenhall with wife Elizabeth, 43 and Sarah 12, Ann 10, John 6 and William 4. Ten year old Ann is likely to be Mary Ann. (HO107/1002/14)

The family had emigrated to the US before 1851.

1849 Immigration/Emigration records show that William Banks, 53 a mason, and Elizabeth Banks 51 left England, from Liverpool in 1849 on board the ship Emblem with Elizabeth 22, John 14 and William 13. The destination of the ship was New Orleans where they arrived on 4 May 1849, and the Banks family was recorded as destined for St Louis.

His discription as a mason doesn't fit correctly with the information we would expect, but the name of his wife and sons makes it a likely match.

The presence of an Elizabeth Banks calls into question information I had on William and Elizabeth's daughter Elizabeth Banks whom I thought was born in 1825 and who died on 1 May 1847, two years before their emigration. Is my information on Elizabeth wrong or is the person accompanying them not their daugther?

1852 The the Utah, U.S., Mormon Pioneer Overland Travel Records, 1847-1868 record that William Banks brn on 7 January 1836 arrived in Deseret, United States on 27 September 1852 and died on 31 March 1909. It mentions Business name Thomas C.D. Howell Company.

Deseret is the name the pioneers gave to the state now known as Utah. Current day Deseret is located in Millard County in the State of Utah

More details of the Pioneer Company of Thomas C.C. Howell are given on the history pages of the ChurchofJesusChrist.org The company is described as of type Church Train.
https://history.churchofjesuschrist.org/chd/organization/pioneer-company/thomas-cd-howell-company-1852?lang=eng&timelineTab=allTabs

The pioneers departed from Kaneswille, Iowa travelling in covered wagons, heading West. The website says:
"293 individuals plus 10 families and about 65 wagons were in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Kanesville, Iowa (present day Council Bluffs). Members of this company arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on 2, 11-12, 27 September 1852."

The full list of participants in the journey shows that John Banks (11 September 1834 - 3 December 1896), William Banks Jr (7 January 1836 - 31 March 1909) and William Banks Sr (5 January 1796 - 25 September 1860) took part. His wife Elizabeth was listed as a participant under her maiden name of Taylor (married name Banks). The younger Elizabeth who travelled with them on the Emblem from Liverpool does not appear to be listed at all.

I do not know for sure but I think that the Banks family was converted and recruited to the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS before they left England for the US. LDS missionaries had arrived and begun their work in the UK some 10 years earlier. See

The branch map of the LDS church shows that the Tettenhall Branch was started sometime between August 1848 and 31 December 1850. It ended on 25 July 1852 and was succeeded by the Wolverhampton branch. Its membership on 28 December 1851 was 26 and by 11 April 1852 it had reduced to 22. However, the Banks's left the area for the US in 1849.

Information from Pat and Ray about our shared ancestor:

Sir John Burley was the 12th great grandfather of William Banks
(1796-1868). He had a brother named Sir Simon Burley who was one of the
most accomplished men of his age and as such was appointed governor of a
young prince, who afterward became King Richard II. Richard was only t
years old when he was crowned. The ceremony was long and elaborate and the
boy, not surprisingly, fell asleep during it. He was carried back to the
castle by his tutor, Sir Simon Burley, still dressed in the royal regalia.
One of the boy's shoes, which was said to have been worn by King Alfred,
fell off and was lost in the crowd. A centuries old relic had been lost, but
the boy never woke up.
In the first year of Richard II, being already a knight, Simon was
appointed keeper of Windsor castle for life. In the next year, Lausteph
castle was confirmed to him. He became very influential in the affai
the king. In 1385 he was one of the executors of Joan Princess of Wales, the
King's mother. In 1386 he was agent of Castle Frome in the same county,
forfeited by the felony of Lady Deveros.
Sir Simon was a victim to the turbulence of the times in which he lived.
In February 1388 the lords appellant tried and convicted five of Richard's
principal advisors for treason in the so-called Merciless Parliament. They
also executed the King's much loved tutor, Sir Simon Burley on May 5, 1388.
The executions took place on Tower Hill. The first permanent scaffold w
set up in about 1465 during the reign of Edward IV, but the first execution
recorded was that of Sir Simon Burley in 1388. He was beheaded.
The judgment against Sir Simon Burley was reversed in the following reign.
The tomb of Sir Simon Burley is found in St. Paul's Cathedral in London.
