If this is correct then Robert was already old when the listed children were born. Was he married before? Is Martha his second wife, is his date of birth incorrect or did he leave starting his family until late in life.

According to James Hamilton in chapter 14: Mr and Mrs Andrews of Bulmer in his book Gainsborough: A Portrait (https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=YO9oDQAAQBAJ&pg=PR3-IA12&lpg=PR3-IA12&dq=Claude+Jamineau+merchant&source=bl&ots=8i0HalKWAl&sig=ACfU3U298IxFMZCb-fnqL98iyqR7a1m60A&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwinv9isiNDqAhULQRUIHUguAoEQ6AEwCXoECAoQAQ#v=onepage&q=Claude%20Jamineau%20merchant&f=false) :

Martha was Robert’s fourth wife.

Robert junior was Robert’s youngest son and Joseph, an apothecary, an older son from his second marriage. Joseph and his father must have fallen out and Joseph unsuccessfully contested his will, losing the case and incurring costs in January 1737. When the will was nearly three weeks later Joseph received only one shilling and a small plot of land, his 10 year old half brother, Robert, got everything.

Robert had bough a half share in Aubries in 1717 and his neighbour, WIlliam Cater - a very successful cloth merchant with interesting in London and the Low Countries - had bought the other half. It appears that Robert and William had planned to unite the property through the marriage of Robert jnr and William’s daughter Frances (grandaughter of Claude Jamineau, cloth merchant). Robert and Frances were married when he was only 20 and she merely 16 years old. The author suggests neither had much say in it.

Robert snr was renowned as protective of his property and in 1723 had attempted to sue the local council of St gregory’s for cutting down some of his trees

If the information in Hamilton’s book is correct then the list of children below is incorrect and needs to be reviewed, although it is possible that Ribert was not the absolute youngest but the eldest of the youngest segment of Robert’s family.
