Ann’s Father’s occupation on Ann’s wedding certificate is “carrier” (or could it be “currier”?) He is only identified by his initial “W”.

Possible birth/baptism
One set of possible parents are William and Sarah Ward of Wolverhampton. Their daughter Ann was christened at St Peter or Collegiate, Wolverhampton 24 September 1816 However, William's occupation is given as Miller. (C010203) .

An Ann ward, daughter of William and Esther Ward of Wolverhampton was baptism was on 14th August 1816 at St Peter or Collegiate, Wolverhampton, father's occupation was coffee mill maker. However transcriptions of the parish records show that this Ann died a few days later on 19th August 1816. The parish record for her burial shows she was only a few days old.

An Ann Ward was baptised at the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Wolverhampton on 22 August 1822, parents William and Eleanor. This would make Ann younger than in subsequent census records, all apart from 1851 implying a dob of 1816/17.

A William Ward married a Sarah Shenton at St Michael's and All Angels, tettenhall Regis on 12 July 1814, withnesses Ann Ward and John Dalton.

A William Ward married an Eleanor Boddess on 11 April 1819 at St Peter's, Wolverhampton. Charles Leicester (his mark) and Samuel Hancher (clerk of the parish?) were the witnesses. Neither had been previously married. No occupation given for William.

A family of Wards born Compton had parents William and Sarah and a number of their children appear to have been christened in the same church, others in Tettenhall.

Census appearances
1841 A 25 year old Ann Ward is living with 25 year old Susannah Yap(p), widowed, and Susannah's 3 year old daughter. A Susannah Yapp, daughter of William Bishton, married John Carmen on 21st October 1841. Susannah Carman was a witness at the marriage of Ann Ward to James Hunt in 1842. James Hunt and Ann Ward were the witnesses at Susannah's marriage. Susannah had previously married Richard Yapp on 29th June 1837 in Tettenhall. The witnesses to that marriage were Joseph ?olinson and Susannah Hope. Susannah was baptised on 22 October 1815 at Tettenhall. Her parents William and Susannah lived at Compton & William was a wheelwright.

For later census information see notes for James Hunt.

Census records indicate that Ann was born in Compton, Staffordshire. This appears to be a district of Wolverhampton. Although her age is not entirely consistent across all the censuses in which she appears, the most common age given points to a birth date in 1816/1817.

Ann probably died in Sheffield in Q2 1888 aged 71 (ref 9c 306)
