Joan was the former nurse of Henry vi for which she was granted an annuity of £40 in 1424. It was reconfirmed in 1463.
Her husband Thomas was thown out of his manor of Ellenhall, which had been awarded to his father and mother after protracted legal suites, by his cousin Robert Harcourt, but after Thomas’s death Joan sued for the dower. The legal cases continued into the next generation.
