Memo of Hannah Davies (later Parr) named her eldest brother as Thomas James Davies, she provides his date of death but says he was 84 years which is older than indicated from birth record for this James. She doesn’t list another brother named James, so current working assumption is that James and Thomas James are one and the same, but she got his age at death wrong. - TO BE INVESTIGATED.

1871 James Davis, 77 a crate maker is living in Hanley (24 Back?) with his wife Elizabeth 65, he was born in Hanley, she in Longton. They had a lodger, William Simon, 62 a labourer born in Staffordshire. (RG10/2864/49 p 30)
Possible birth for this James is 5th May 1796 christening 23 Oct 1796, Hanley. Parents James and Sarah Davies. (Christening records from England and Wales - Ancestry.co.uk)

(1861 James 60, crate maker born Stoke on Trent and Elizabeth 50 living in Davis Street, Shelton - is this the same couple? Seems unlikely because there is couple with the same names and exactly 10 years younger living in St Paul’s Strreet, Burslem in 1851 with daughter Elizabeth 21 born Stoke and Grandson William, 10 born Birmingham. James id a crate maker.)
