A John Turner and his wife Jane had at least two children Samuel (abt 1790) and Elizabeth (abt 1793) both of whom may be linked to Samuel (1816) father of Jane Turner. However, this link is speculative and the two children listed below may not be the Samuel and Elizabeth subsequently identified. A John Turner married Jane Stubbs at St Edward’s church Leek on 31st Dec 1789. Both made their mark in the register. The witnesses were Joseph Wakefield and Francis Hilliard. While Francis is a witness at many marriages and is most likely a parish clerk, Jospeh, who signed his own name, is not. This is an interesting link between the Turner and Wakefield families and may strengthen the liklihood of this being the correct couple. The most likely christening record for John is 8th April 1768 at St Edward’s Leek. Parents Thomas Turner and his wife Ann. The most likely burial is recorded on 7th Dec 1819 at St Edwards Leek: John Turner of Ladderedge aged 51 (born 1768). |
