Is Edwin the son of WIlliam and Mary who was christened on 9th July 1815, Hanley? C010582. Possibly not as in 1841 there is a census entry for an Edwin Hill, potter25, living with Mary Hill 67 (probably his mother) at Far Green, Upper Hanley. There appear to be no records of Edwin and Hannah after 1841. In 1851 an Edwin Hill, a cabinet maker, of the right age (although born Newcastle) is living with Dinah, 30 his wife. Edwin Hill married Dinah Hordern on3 Nov 1845 (Stoke on Trent 1845 Q4 17 p202) and besides their son Frederick,5 there is also another child Joseph Hordern with them. The similarity of age and occupation suggest that this is Edwin and that he has remarried following Hannah’s death. A registration of death for Edwin Hill: Stoke in Trent Q3 1870 6b 100, his age was given as 55. |
